There are three choices for property and casualty licenses that cover insurance for individuals:

Personal Only

20-44 Property and Casualty Personal Lines Agent:   allows an individual to transact property and casualty insurance sold to individuals and families for non-commercial purposes.   With this license you can open your own agency.  Learn More

Personal and Commercial

2-20 Property and Casualty General Lines Agent:   allows an individual to transact any of the following kinds of insurance: property, casualty, surety, health and marine and miscellaneous lines.   With this license you can open your own agency.  Learn More
4-40 Customer Representative:   allows an individual to transact insurance in an office as a salaried employee of a general lines agent or agency.   With this license you must work under the supervision of a licensed and appointed general lines agent.  Learn More

There are three choices for life and health licenses:

2-15 Life, Health and Variable Annuity Agent:   allows an individual to transact contracts for Life Insurance, Fixed, and Fixed Equity Indexed Annuities.   This license also allows the individual to transact Health Insurance.   (To sell Variable Annuitites an indivdual must also obtain a Series 6 Securities or Series 7 Stock Brokers license.)   Learn More

2-40 Health Agent:   allows an individual to transact health insurance.   Learn More

An all-lines claims adjusters will, on behalf of an insurance company:

  • Determine the amount of a claim, loss, or damage payable under an insurance contract, or
  • Settle the claim, loss, or damage.
6-20 All-Lines Adjuster:   An individual licensed as a Florida 6-20 All-Lines Adjuster can be employed by an insurance company, on the company's staff; or be self-employed or employed by an independent adjusting firm.   Learn More

You can get this license by obtaining the Professional Claims Adjuster (PCA) Designation.   This designation Waives the State License Exam.   Learn More

So you are thinking about getting into the insurance field, but you aren't sure.  You might want to dip your toe in the insurance waters and see how it feels.   The logical starting place is with a 4-40 Customer Representative license. With this license, you:

  • Can work in an insurance agency right away
  • Make money while you "test the waters"
  • Gain experience that can be applied to gaining an agent license later

Central Insurance School offers two Designation Programs that allow you to get the 4-40 Customer Representative License.
Either of these Designation Programs Waives the State Exam.

Certified Professional Service Representative (CPSR): Classroom ~ or ~ Webinar

This National Designation assists in obtaining a 4-40 Customer Representative license and waives the state exam.   This program emphasizes personal lines topics such as Homeowners Insurance, Dwelling Property, Flood Insurance; Personal Auto, Related Vehicles, and Personal Umbrellas.  This program also covers the commercial lines topics of Commercial Property, General Liability, Workers' Compensation, and Commercial Auto.  Emphasis is also given to the Agency Operations topics of agency formation, authority, legal status, contracts, errors & omissions prevention through customer services, risk management process, and insurers.

Professional Customer Service Representative (PCSR): Online Self-Study

This program is a State Designation program for the Customer Representative license for the State of Florida and waives the state exam.   The program covers Personal Lines (automobile, homeowners, umbrellas, & no-fault) and Commercial Lines (property, liability, automobile, inland marine, crime, boiler & machinery, workers compensation, ocean marine and aviation).
